課程概述

This course is designed to lay the groundwork for modern research in specific fields of atomic and optical physics. The curriculum delves into the dynamics of how radiation interacts with atoms, encompassing concepts such as resonance, various forms of emission (absorption, stimulated, and spontaneous), and resonance techniques. It also explores advanced topics like the dressed atom approach, the principles and mechanics of masers and lasers, and the intricacies of cavity quantum electrodynamics. A significant focus is also placed on contemporary experimental methods in this domain. 

課程目標
The course objectives for "Atomic and Optical Physics" focus on the understanding of the principles and applications related to the behavior and interaction of atoms and light. Some of Key goals of the course include:

Fundamental Concepts of Atomic Physics: To gain a comprehensive understanding of the basic principles governing atomic structure, including the quantum mechanical description of atoms, electron configurations, and atomic spectra.

Atom-light interactions: To explore the fundamental principles of optics and light-matter interactions.

Laser Physics: To understand the principles and workings of lasers and their applications in various fields.

Experimental Techniques: To learn about the experimental methods and techniques used in atomic and optical physics, including spectroscopy, laser cooling and trapping. etc.

Contemporary Research and Developments: To explore current research topics and technological advancements in atomic and optical physics, such as quantum information processing, atomic clocks, quantum sensing, and quantum gas.
